FAQ’s:
What is the Purdy Landfill Solar Project?
Pierce County is looking to the Key Peninsula community, including residents, community-based organizations, and community leaders, to co-create a community benefit program. They will be hosting workshops, distributing surveys, and conducting interviews to identify how the revenue should be used to ease energy burden, increase energy efficiency, and reduce pollution in Key Peninsula and beyond.
Community input will also help to identify how the solar array could be used for educational purposes. Community education and green workforce exploration and development were identified as community priorities during the 2025 Sustainability 2030 Plan update engagement period. Pierce County has already hosted several tours of the solar project including Clover Park Technical College environmental science students and workforce partners from Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region.
