FAQ’s:
What is planned for the Tacoma Narrows Bridge?
The Tacoma Narrows Bridge will undergo temporary repairs to an aging expansion joint sometime in October, potentially causing traffic delays of an hour or more. The repairs will close the two right lanes of the westbound State Route 16 bridge around the clock for up to 14 days, although an exact start date has not yet been announced. The bridge, built in 1950, has experienced 10 sets of emergency repairs since 2024, and three expansion joints are scheduled for a major overhaul next year. Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) advises commuters to plan ahead, consider alternate routes, adjust travel times, or work from home when possible.
