Timely News:
Scarecrow Contest registration starts Wednesday, September 10 and ends October 15. Installation in Key Center of Scarecrows is 9/13-10/17. For regulations and to sign up your scarecrow you can go to the KP Council office in the KP Corral or online at https://kpfarmtour.com.
Join Key Peninsula Community Services on Wednesdays this month at 1:00pm for “Wi-Fi Wednesdays!” Each week they will explore a new topic to help you feel more confident with today’s technology. September 10 – Intro to AI, September 17 – Phone Tips and Tricks, September 24 – Computer Basics & Handy Tricks.
At the Key Center Library: KP Readers, Story Time for Mixed Ages Thursday, September 11, 10:30am-11:30am; MultiCare WIC Program Thursday, September 11, 1:00pm-4:30pm; Play Time Friday, September 12, 1:00pm-2:00pm; Story Time for Babies Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 10:15am-11:15am.
Key Peninsula Council Meeting: Thursday, September 11. Refreshments at 6:00pm, meeting starts at 6:30pm. The guest speaker will be Brian Bowman, Supervisor of the Pierce County Animal Control. A topic of concern lately is with animals harming chickens and other pets. Brian will address these concerns and solutions for what can be done. Food Backpacks 4 Kids (FB4K) Farm Stand, this is an awesome opportunity for community connectedness! Please join them every Saturday through September 27 10:00am-2:00pm at their Food Bank location – Proceeds benefit their programs.
2nd Annual Key Peninsula Civic Center Benefit Car Show Saturday, September 13, 10:00am-1:00pm. Free for Spectators/$20 Advanced Vehicle Registration/$30 Day of Vehicle Registration. For additional information: https://www.kpciviccenter.org
The Mustard Seed Project, Care Cafe Monday, September 15 at 2:00pm. They are reimagining their Caregiver Support Group and transforming it into Care Cafe. Caregivers, those caring for friends and family are all welcome to attend. Care Café will be a relaxed and inclusive space for everyone.

The Coffee Oasis Hope Gala Fundraiser Friday, September 12, 5:00pm-9:00pm. This will be at The Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside, 100 Washington Ave, Bremerton, WA 98337. There will be silent and live auctions, dessert dash, dinner, and drinks. Individual tickets and full tables are available for purchase. Now that school is back in session, are you looking for ways to volunteer?
The following are just a couple of opportunities to help with Key Peninsula Youth.
- Communities in Schools: https://Peninsula.ciswa.org/volunteer/
- Academic Mentoring – Support student learning, either individually or in mentoring groups, under direction of CISP staff or PSD/SKSD staff if mentoring in an AVID classroom
- College Admission and Application Assistance– Assist high school students with essay writing, standardized test preparation, financial assistance, and college readiness.
- Tutors with Tails Therapy Dog Reading Program –
- Support children with literacy and social-emotional skills, along with CISP staff.
- Participate in story time for young readers. In this program certified dog therapy teams’ partner with students who need extra boost in reading. Dog teams must be certified by a national therapy dog organization such as Pet Partners, Inc., or Therapy Dogs International.
- Red Barn Youth Center: redbarnkp.org
- After school, 2:30pm-6:00pm
- Homework help
- Craft time with the kids.
- Play games including pool, table tennis, air hockey, or a board game, just to name a few.
- Or just be an extra set of eyes.
